Hakodate Wagyu(Kikonai)

A brand of cattle that is hardly seen outside Hokkaido.
Taste the finest lean beef which is naturally tender.

"Hakodate Wagyu" which is produced in Kikonai is a Japanese brown cattle which is also known as "Japanese red".

Although the number of heads of cattle produced per annum is relatively small at only about 220. With time and effort being carefully spent to raise these animals in a warm environment, these cattle have tender lean quality beef which is becoming more popular for the beef by right having the finest natural taste.

Certainly savor some when you visit Kikonai.

Misogi-no-Mai(Dance of the purification ritual)(Kikonai)

It is dry and mellow on the palate which is popular.
Kikonai rice is used for the limited production run of Junmai Sake (sake made without added alcohol or sugar).

Domestically grown Kikonai rice varieties, "Honoka 224" and "Hoshino Yume" are used. The Junmai sake is brewed at Fuji sake brewery in Tsuruoka city, Yamagata prefecture which is a sister city to Kikonai. Its sale is limited to the local neighborhood.

It is dry and mellow on the palate. It has abundant aromas and has a characteristic refreshing taste making it easy to drink.
Both "Hatsu shibori" in about February and "Hiyaoroshi" roughly in November also have a limited releases for sale. Both of these drinks are also getting more popular every year.
