Former Sasanami Family Residence(Kaminokuni)

The oldest private house in existence in Hokkaido.
It is said to be an original type of herring fisherman's lodge.

The Sasanami family is an old family that engaged in herring fishing for generations in Kaminokuni.
The former Sasanami family residence is the oldest private residence existing in Hokkaido and as it is affiliated to the Sea of Japan's coast in Hokkaido, it is also said to be the a surviving herring fisherman's lodge.
We recommend after going around the town which is full of historical structures to visit "Yunotai Hot Spring (Kaminokuni People's Hot Spring Recreation Center)"which has many fans as it is a hot spring which has rare carbonated spring water.

Michi-no-Eki Kaminokuni Monju(Kaminokuni)

The Michi-no-Eki where it's possible to have an unbroken view of the stunning vista of the Sea of Japan.
The specialty of "Tekkui tendon (a bowl of rice topped with tempura)" is recommended.

In Kaminokuni-cho, do certainly drop by "Michi-no-Eki Monju", it's boasting beautiful scenery of the Sea of Japan which it is possible to see with one sweep of the eye.
The restaurant "Gourmet boutique Monju" is located on the second floor and "Tekkui Tendon" is popular on its menu.
Tekkui is sole fish in the Hiyama region's dialect.
Fresh flounder which can even be eaten as sashimi is one extravagant dish which when eaten as tempura (deep fried fish) has a gentle light texture.
