- Former Hokkaido Government Office Building(Sapporo)
A historical structure which is an indication of Hokkaido's pioneering phase.
This sightseeing spot is affectionately known as the "Red Brick Office".
Constructed in an American neo-baroque architectural style in 1888, it is used as a government building, many local Hokkaido products were utilized in its construction such as the building materials: red bricks, hard stone and timber.
On the one hand, it has an impressive and heavy facade, on the interior, there are three sectional arches in the front hall and the former director general/prefectural governor's room is decorated as a commemoration room with delicate decor and design.
Just admire the exhaustive building construction calculations.
It is possible to look around in the building for free where "The Archives of Hokkaido", "AKARENGA Branch of Hokkaido Museum", "Karafuto ( Japanese name for Sakhalin) Related Resources Library", "The Red Brick Northern Territories Museum" and the "Exhibition Room of Hokkaido's International Exchanges and Local Products" have been established but on the second floor at the "tourist information corner" if you enquire directly, a volunteer guide will kindly show you around the inside of the government office building.
By all means ask at the tourist information corner and enjoy your tour of the building's interior.
